It seems with this company that dollars in the till will forgive you of anything at least let the bosses pretend it doesn't really happen, is it really any different from any other place? But I know at Starbucks that its my fault for paying 10 dollars for coffee, at jcpenny I can always look under the sticker, but with my 'nieghborhood' mechanic I would like to feel I can trust his judgement, where does the dollar and common sense, human decency, line blur. Gmail parts for my truck, great, they built it, autozone parts at the same price, think next time I'm going to send my "negro" brother in law in first and see if he gets it better

Generally, our stores do not carry the Michelin brand. So when we have customers who would like to purchase Michelins, we need to purchase them from a distributor. What this means is that we do not get the same dealer pricing that allows the retailer to make their usual profit on the tire sale.
Without knowing the specifics of your situation, I would assume that the store sold you the Michelin at or below the cost that they paid for the tire in order to earn your business.
While the price seemed out of line, it was likely the best the store could do since they do not carry Michelin tires.
